We hired Chris Mriscin/ Wanoca Development Group as the general contractor to design/ build our new custom home on a mountain site in Swannanoa NC. Our property is part of a landholder HOA, which requires design review and adherence to building standards.

​We couldn’t be happier with the home that Chris and his team built for us. Build quality, attention to detail, responsiveness and communication throughout the build process were real highlights of our experience with Chris.

We had a relatively complex build, and in addition to our steep terrain challenges we also had to navigate Helene. Chris was patient with us as clients, explaining any issues that arose in the process and his plans to mitigate those challenges. If he wasn’t satisfied with a subcontractor’s work, he let us know and got it fixed.

He worked well with our HOA’s Design Review Community to ensure our plans and build adhered to community rules (which mostly focus on water flow, a challenge of our community’s steep terrain.)

​Custom builds are hard, with lots of hurdles to clear through the process. We couldn’t have picked a better builder to partner with on our new home. We love it, and we loved working with Chris. We highly recommend Wanoca to anyone considering a contractor, especially when quality of the build is driving the decision.

My wife, Julie Wannamaker, and I have been working with Chris Mriscin since we bought our home in Asheville in 2022. We are extremely pleased with the work that Chris has done for us, and we are very happy to recommend him.

Chris demonstrates the highest level of professionalism. He is a perfectionist and works closely with his teams to ensure that their work is done properly and meets the customer’s requirements. That work has often exceeded our expectations.

Chris is very responsible and honest. He does not take short cuts and finishes the work he has promised in the time that he has promised.

Our home required extensive updates as well as some major renovations. Among other projects - Chris replaced a massive boulder retaining wall for our driveway; installed new drainage for our parking pad; replaced our long, steep driveway and our parking pad; replaced our roof. He refinished and painted all of the exterior and interior walls of our house; refinished our two extensive decks; refinished all of our floors; painted all of our rooms. He installed new cabinetry, counter tops, plumbing fixtures throughout the house. He completely redid our master bath, going down to the studs.

As I mentioned, all of the work Chris did has been exceptional.

Working with Wanoca Builders was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The overall caliber of construction is exceptionally high, and the quality shows throughout the home.

The finished carpentry is beautiful and precise, reflecting true craftsmanship. Energy efficiency was clearly a priority, resulting in a home that is comfortable, well-sealed, and thoughtfully designed. What impressed me most, however, was the attention to detail— nothing felt rushed, overlooked, or treated as “good enough.”

I also appreciated the team’s flexibility and willingness to make changes to suit my needs. Requests were handled professionally, and in many cases the final result exceeded my expectations.

The exterior features deserve special recognition as well. The screened-in porch is both functional and inviting, and has become one of my favorite spaces in the home. The stone retaining wall is equally impressive—solidly built and visually striking.

She guided us through the entire selections process including choosing coordinated colors and finishes that helped the home flow beautifully, which relieved much of the stress that can come with building a new home.

There are many aspects of our home that make it special, including the classic moldings, true hardwood floors, and the perfect blend of cozy cottage charm with an elegant mountain style.
